(moved from the thread in the wrong area).

I present:

Rivers of the City of Dust.

Production notes:
Recorded last summer but I ran into serious technical snags with this track, basically reducing my overbuilt computer to its knees during
the production. The mix and instrumentation sounds simple but there are tons of layers in this thing, dialog tracks, tons of percussion
bits like overlaying loops on loops on loops and adding extra percussive bits, tons of guitars and every instrument had dozens of effects
on it. Still problems exist - one of the main synth solos ended up with undesired clipping that just could not be removed no matter what.

I finished it last night by adding the dialog for the sort of empty groove section. It was a bit too sparse.

So what.

Enjoy.

I am nearly speechless! Very nice production! The guitar work is outstanding, however I particularly like the compressed, chunky rhythm sound you are getting in this piece - especially early on. The transitions are very nice (especially after the voice clip!) as well and your lead work is as fluid as always.

T, this has a little of that John Scofield Techno stink on it. Great groove!

Hello there mister Asb
been EXTREMLY busy lately with two jobs, a 16-year-old son and a pregnant wife and a baby on the way---did i mention that here yet?-----music, and all the rest, but hey man I liked this a lot , as it's mega catchy/fun in that sporebomb way
but hey, what are those (skippy) animal mutilation, UfO dissinfo thingy voice-overs ? and if you'd like to carry on here or off-line your thoughts?
anyway, I was going to say that if I could make one slightest of slight mini mixing /imaging suggestion/personal input bits, it would be to not have too many center-panned (or their near cousins) tracks------even if they’re stereo------to help open up the sonic terrain a bit and offset your attention to tracks, even if intuition says that should result in the other thing...........but then you offset the clean solo after the voice-overs a bit to the left .
Oh well,keep keeping on.......................................hey, BtW,i love that synth-guitar (?) end tag !

Congrats congrats on the impending new arrival! Very cool indeed.

OK - regarding the voiceover: that came from a weird british ufo documentary I found online called "UFOs: The Secret Evidence"
from 2005. That section is the presenter, Nick Cook who is a defense industry journalist interviewing a rancher from new mexico
who literally was driven out of business by repeated kidnapping and mutilation of his cattle.

One night a light flew over his pastures that initially appeared to be a ufo but after a light went on in the cockpit it was obvious it
was some helicopter designed to look like a flying saucer. That lead to some analysis that it was some kind of covert monitoring
program deal.

There was other interesting stuff covered as well, worth a search on bittorrent if you haven't seen it.

Yeah, the biggest problem with that track is it was done the first week I had my vg99 and I had no freaking clue how to do anything
like panning - I noticed that problem too - it's sort of a "bonus track" more than anything else but figured the people here would dig
it if nobody else would.

Congrats again on your impending arrival!

great filtering, Todd....and yes, it's sort of like a more soundscapy Scofield meets Bill Nelson....tasteful bass lines, as well.
