GtrOblq 2.0 has a relatively long and illustrious history. We started in 1999 with a Yahoo group called Experimental Guitar that later evolved into a site of the same name. The following year Experimental Guitar shifted toward advanced improvisational lead techniques and the site name was changed to SLH-GtrOblq. In 2001 the site was renamed, simply, GtrOblq and in 2002 we reorganized under the name GtrOblq-Kronosonic until the site disbanded in early 2007. For the most part, the old-timers from years past are still hanging out together. At its height, Kronosonic and the International Society for Creative Guitar and String Music was home to dozens of amazing guitarists and a destination for thousands of kindred spirits. Toward the end, Kronosonic was receiving well over 1,000,000 hits per month and, unfortunately, an ever-expanding set of demands meant “going long” or reorganizing. Now we’re back with one of our earlier identities, some resource consolidation, and a new organizational model for promoting the music we love. The name “GtrOblq” is borrowed from the Vernon Reid, Elliott Sharp, and David Torn album of the same name released on the Knitting Factory label in 1998.
